In the heart of India's southwestern coast lies a land that beckons with the promise of a sensory symphony – Kerala. Embarking on a solo journey to this captivating state, I found myself swept away by its vibrant tapestry of culture, nature, and artistry. With each step, Kerala unfolded like a meticulously crafted masterpiece, leaving an indelible mark on my soul.
Why Kerala, you ask? Picture-perfect landscapes, enchanting backwaters, and a rich tapestry of cultural heritage – Kerala is a canvas waiting to be explored. It's a place where time slows down, allowing you to immerse yourself in the rhythm of life.
Its been 2 years since my trip and i was hesitating in writing this blog. Because i thought no words or photographs can do justice to Kerala. Maybe its time to go to Kerala once again!
Kochi: A Tapestry of Culture and Art
Touching down in Kochi, my journey began with a spirited exploration of this historic port city. Opting for the convenience of a cab, I was fortunate to meet Ginesh (9746969540), a jovial local who doubled as my guide, regaling me with tales of the region's rich history and culture.
Fueling up with a delectable breakfast at French Toast Studio, I embarked on a sensory adventure through the vibrant streets of Mattancherry. Amidst the bustling alleys adorned with captivating artwork, I found myself engrossed in conversations with local artists, gaining insights into their craft and cultural influences.
A visit to the iconic Mattancherry Palace and a rendezvous at Kochi Art Cafe added layers to my cultural odyssey. However, the highlight of my day was an immersive workshop at the Kathakali Center, where I delved into the intricate art of traditional dance and theater.
Alleppey: Tranquility on the Backwaters
Transitioning from the urban bustle of Kochi to the tranquil waters of Alleppey was a welcome change of pace. En route, I seized the opportunity to mingle with toddy makers, witnessing their age-old craft amidst picturesque landscapes.
Arriving in Alleppey, I checked into the ake paradise resort (9946481176), eager to explore the famed backwaters. Opting for a kayak excursion, I navigated through winding canals, punctuated by moments of serenity and occasional downpours, each adding to the ethereal beauty of the experience.
Vagamon: Amidst the Hills and Valleys
I ventured towards Vagamon, a scenic hill station renowned for its idyllic landscapes and verdant tea plantations. En route, I savoured local delicacies (banana chips and achappam) and marvelled at the pineapple, rubber, and tea estates that dotted the countryside.
At Zostel Vagamon, I found camaraderie amidst fellow travelers, forging connections over shared adventures and impromptu hikes. Exploring the wilderness of Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary and witnessing the mesmerising artistry of Kalaripayattu further enriched my journey.
As my expedition drew to a close, I found solace and spiritual rejuvenation at the Isha Yoga Center. Amidst tranquil surroundings, I immersed myself in introspection and contemplation, cherishing the moments of serenity amidst the verdant landscape.
In retrospect, Kerala transcends mere description – it's an experience that resonates with the soul, a journey that lingers long after the footprints fade. With its tapestry of sights, sounds, and sensations, Kerala invites you to immerse yourself fully in its artistic embrace, promising a voyage unlike any other.
